The Urban League’s Career Marketplace helps job seekers access employment opportunities. How? We partner with progressive organizations that are searching for minority employees.

Our corporate partners include organizations in all business sectors and industries, including many of the area’s largest and most famous names. And right now, these employers are looking for skilled individuals to fill executive, professional, support and entry-level positions.

To access job opportunities provided by the Career Marketplace, call 816-471-0550 or email receptionist@ulkc.org to schedule a consultation.

What does the Career Marketplace offer?

Referrals for Job Openings We function like a search firm or an employment agency. In other words, we find qualified applicants for our corporate partners’ job openings and then make referrals. When you come in for service, we’ll give you a current list of our corporate partners and explain how our referral process works.
Job Search Training Workshops In addition, the Career Marketplace offers Career Fitness Workshops. Job Seekers are required to attend at least two. Topics are varied and we try to hold one workshop a week.
Resume Writing, Practice Interviews
and Search Resources
When you come in for service, we’ll review your resume to make sure it meets today’s job market standards. If not, we’ll help you revise your resume. If you don’t have a resume, we’ll help you write one from scratch.
If you want to practice interviewing, we can arrange that, too. We have experienced human resource professionals who volunteer to conduct mock interviews with Career Marketplace job seekers.
We’ll also tell you how to get lists of employers that you can use in your job search. As a Career Marketplace client, if you need access to high-speed Internet, you can use our computers Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hiring Fairs Once a year, we host the Career Bazaar & Hiring Fair, a citywide event that features companies who are actively recruiting employees. There are also job search training workshops conducted during this event. Throughout the year, we may host employer-specific hiring fairs. Registered Career Marketplace clients always receive advance notice of all hiring fairs and workshops.
Premier Services We also offer executive coaching and outplacement for professionals. Coaching allows professionals to fine-tune their management skills. Outplacement is for professionals who seek a pre-emptive strategy when they believe their jobs are in jeopardy because of a pending reduction in workforce, company restructuring or other reason.

How does the Career Marketplace work?

When you come in for your first consultation, you will be asked to complete a computer-based application. This will take 20-30 minutes depending on your technical skill level. Immediately afterwards, you will meet with an experienced career consultant to discuss your career path, search goals, search strategies, and your resume. You may schedule follow-up meetings for further assistance to ensure a successful job search.
