Minority Scholarship Fair Returns!Feb. 16; 10a - 2p
More than 34 college, university and armed services representatives from across the country will again be on hand to discuss scholarship opportunities with individuals who attend this year’s Minority Scholarship Fair presented by the Infinite Scholars Program and Urban League of Greater Kansas City. The event is free and open to the public.
On February 16, 2008 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the downtown Kansas City, MO Marriott Hotel, high school and community college transfer students will have an opportunity to obtain hundreds of academic scholarships and military opportunities during the event. College representation includes Webster University, William Jewell College, Missouri State University, St. Louis University, University of Missouri (all locations), and the University of Kansas. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) include Clark Atlanta University, South Carolina State University, Stillman College, and Virginia State University. more >> |
New Board Chair and Members Selected
Troy Stremming, vice president of Governmental Affairs for Ameristar, Inc. has been elected the new Board of Directors Chair for the Urban League of Greater Kansas City. Stremming, who will serve a two-year term, was introduced at the 50th Difference Maker Awards Day Luncheon on December 4, 2007.
Other newly elected Board of Directors members, whose tenure will conclude in 2010, are: Al Bedran, vice president, UPS, Inc., Kansas District; Art Chaudry, executive financial officer and general manager, Union Station; Dr. Terry Calaway, president, Johnson County Community College; Michael L. Dulaney, plant manager, GM Fairfax Assembly Plant; Barrett Hatches, president and CEO, Swope Health Services and CEO, Swope Community Enterprises; and Michael J. Rainen, president, Rainen Companies, Inc., and owner, Langley/Empire Candle and founder, Rainen Business Interiors, Inc.
The following individuals will serve as officers for a one-year term: Vice Chair, Carol Grimaldi, executive director, Brush Creek Community Partners; Vice Chair, J. P. Larson, district sales manager, CVS Pharmacies; Vice Chair, Ralph Reid, vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility, Sprint/Nextel; Secretary, Allen Roberson, CPA, chief financial officer, Cydex, Inc.; Treasurer, Steve Easley, vice president, Generation Services, Great Plains Energy; and Past Chair, Adam Sachs, partner, Blackwell Sanders, LLP.
