The word “equal” embodies the mission of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City and the purpose of the State of Black Kansas City report. Black Americans have played a vital role in creating, building and sustaining this nation, this “Land of Opportunity.” Yet, from its inception to the present day, America has not been a land of equal opportunity for African Americans. The data examined in this year’s Equality Index shows that blacks
still lag behind our white counterparts. Much more needs to be done
to close the equality gap that continues to cripple many African
Americans – economically, politically and socially. By analyzing these
conditions and working together with the broader community to
remove the barriers that impede our progress, the State of Black Kansas
City Equality Index serves as an important tool for moving us closer |
